The first edition of Le Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was published in 2005. Early in 2006 the book was declared 'Best Book on French Wine 2005' by the internationally functioning, prestigious institute of the Gourmand World Cookbook Award and it was translated into French, English, German and Japanese. In this reviewed edition of the book about the Burgundian Domaine and all its own special qualities, you notice that at the Domaine in the past years the aim has been for the best with even more ambition. Work has been carried out with even more precision. This is a trend that can also be seen in other quality estates in Burgundy. It is wonderful to see how the pursuit of ultimate quality, and particularly purity too, motivates, stimulates and vitalizes the people on the Domaine. Meanwhile work in the vineyards of the Domain de Romanée Conti is carried out entirely biodynamically. Lots of new fantastic photographs have been added in this luxurious edition, and the text is brought up to date and has a more in-depth quality.

A spectacular visual history of video games from 1958 to the present
In the past sixty-five years, video games have evolved from primitive computer-lab experiments into one of the world's most popular forms of entertainment and?many would say?an important new art form. Video Games traces every step of this fascinating journey, from Pong to the Atari 2600; to the 8-bit and 16-bit consoles; to Wolfenstein 3D and Doom; to Playstation and Xbox; to MMORPGs; to Minecraft and Fortnite; to Twitch streaming.
The lively text gives equal attention to the games, the gaming platforms, and the personalities and subcultures of the gaming world. It is illustrated throughout with beautiful color photographs of mint-condition retro hardware and cartridges from one of the world's finest collections, and with screenshots of classic games. Video Games is the perfect nostalgic gift for gamers of every generation. -

Fritz Kahn, pionnier de l'infographie
Uta Von debschitz, Thilo Von debschitz

- Bibliotheca Universalis
- 13 Juin 2017
- 9783836504935

The improbable and untold story of the college student who invented the world's first computer dating service
In the fall of 1962, Jeff Tarr, a teenager from a small town in Maine, began his freshman year at Harvard University. By the time he graduated, he had developed and launched the first-ever computer dating service, upending courting rituals at colleges across the United States and becoming a minor celebrity in his own right. Tarr's innovation arrived in a nation whose campuses were still in step with 1950s notions of morality, propriety and tradition--many northeastern college dormitories were still segregated by sex, and bars weren't a place for singles to meet and mingle. In just a few semesters, Tarr brought computer algorithms to the people, propelling America's youngest adults headlong into the swinging '60s. As the sexual revolution and women's rights movement gained steam, and as civil rights victories mounted and the Vietnam War dragged on, Tarr's new vision for how young men and women should pair off rode a surging wave of cultural change.
Operation Match follows Tarr's adventure from the dateless Saturday night where a little beer and banter with his roommate sparked an idea, through the process of perfecting a dating questionnaire, to late nights feeding thousands of punch cards into a rented IBM mainframe, to matching tens of thousands of young men and women, for better or for worse. It also traces his transformation from an anonymous, awkward, Kennedy-loving college man to a voice of the New Frontier, appearing on the Today Show and the Tonight Show and, of course, having more dates than he could ever have dreamed of.
Patsy Tarr met Jeff Tarr the old-fashioned way: through a blind date. She has been a lifelong enthusiast of dance and in 1988 founded the 2wice Arts Foundation to better support the field through the publication of two award-winning magazines, Dance Ink and 2wice.

A book-length selection from Kevin Killian's legendary corpus of more than two thousand product reviews posted on Amazon.com.
An enchanting roll of duct tape. Love Actually on Blu-ray Disc. The Toaster Oven Cookbook, The Biography of Stevie Nicks, and an anthology of poets who died of AIDS. In this only book-length selection from his legendary corpus of more than two thousand product reviews posted on Amazon.com, sagacious shopper Kevin Killian holds forth on these household essentials and many, many, many others.
The beloved author of more than a dozen volumes of innovative poetry, fiction, drama, and scholarship, Killian was for decades a charismatic participant in San Francisco's New Narrative writing circle. From 2003-2019, he was also one of Amazon's most prolific reviewers, rising to rarefied «Top 100» and «Hall of Fame» status on the site. Alternately hilarious and heartfelt, Killian's commentaries consider an incredible variety of items, each review a literary escapade hidden in plain sight amongst the retailer's endless pages of user-generated content. Selected Amazon Reviews at last gathers an appropriately wide swath of this material between two covers, revealing the project to be a unified whole and always more than a lark.
Some for «verified purchases,» others for products enjoyed in theory, Killian's reviews draw on the influential strategies of New Narrative, his unrivaled fandom for both elevated and popular culture, and the fine art of fabulation. Many of them are ingeniously funny-flash-fictional riffs on the commodity as talismanic object, written by a cast of personas worthy of Pessoa. And many others are serious, even scholarly-earnest tributes to contemporaries, and to small-press books that may not have received attention elsewhere, offered with exemplary attention. All of Killian's reviews subvert the Amazon platform, queering it to his own play with language, identity, genre, critique.
Killian's prose is a consistent pleasure throughout Selected Amazon Reviews, brimming with wit, lyricism, and true affection. As the Hall of Famer himself reflected on this form-of-his-own-invention shortly before his untimely passing in 2019: «They're reviews of a sort, but they also seem like novels. They're poems. They're essays about life. I get a lot of my kinks out there, on Amazon.» -

You're not alone.
At any given moment, somewhere in the world someone struggles with the same software design problems you have. You know you don't want to reinvent the wheel (or worse, a flat tire), so you look to Design Patterns--the lessons learned by those who've faced the same problems. With Design Patterns, you get to take advantage of the best practices and experience of others, so that you can spend your time on...something else. Something more challenging. Something more complex. Something more fun.
You want to learn about the patterns that matter--why to use them, when to use them, how to use them (and when NOT to use them). But you don't just want to see how patterns look in a book, you want to know how they look "in the wild". In their native environment. In other words, in real world applications. You also want to learn how patterns are used in the Java API, and how to exploit Java's built-in pattern support in your own code.
You want to learn the real OO design principles and why everything your boss told you about inheritance might be wrong (and what to do instead). You want to learn how those principles will help the next time you're up a creek without a design pattern.
Most importantly, you want to learn the "secret language" of Design Patterns so that you can hold your own with your co-worker (and impress cocktail party guests) when he casually mentions his stunningly clever use of Command, Facade, Proxy, and Factory in between sips of a martini. You'll easily counter with your deep understanding of why Singleton isn't as simple as it sounds, how the Factory is so often misunderstood, or on the real relationship between Decorator, Facade and Adapter.
With Head First Design Patterns, you'll avoid the embarrassment of thinking Decorator is something from the "Trading Spaces" show. Best of all, in a way that won't put you to sleep! We think your time is too important (and too short) to spend it struggling with academic texts.
If you've read a Head First book, you know what to expect--a visually rich format designed for the way your brain works. Using the latest research in neurobiology, cognitive science, and learning theory, Head First Design Patterns will load patterns into your brain in a way that sticks. In a way that lets you put them to work immediately. In a way that makes you better at solving software design problems, and better at speaking the language of patterns with others on your team.

Deep learning : adaptive computation and machine learning
Yoshua Bengio
- Mit Press
- 18 Novembre 2016
- 9780262035613
An introduction to a broad range of topics in deep learning, covering mathematical and conceptual background, deep learning techniques used in industry, and research perspectives. "Written by three experts in the field, Deep Learning is the only comprehensive book on the subject." --Elon Musk , cochair of OpenAI; cofounder and CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Deep learning is a form of machine learning that enables computers to learn from experience and understand the world in terms of a hierarchy of concepts. Because the computer gathers knowledge from experience, there is no need for a human computer operator to formally specify all the knowledge that the computer needs. The hierarchy of concepts allows the computer to learn complicated concepts by building them out of simpler ones; a graph of these hierarchies would be many layers deep. This book introduces a broad range of topics in deep learning. The text offers mathematical and conceptual background, covering relevant concepts in linear algebra, probability theory and information theory, numerical computation, and machine learning. It describes deep learning techniques used by practitioners in industry, including deep feedforward networks, regularization, optimization algorithms, convolutional networks, sequence modeling, and practical methodology; and it surveys such applications as natural language processing, speech recognition, computer vision, online recommendation systems, bioinformatics, and videogames. Finally, the book offers research perspectives, covering such theoretical topics as linear factor models, autoencoders, representation learning, structured probabilistic models, Monte Carlo methods, the partition function, approximate inference, and deep generative models. Deep Learning can be used by undergraduate or graduate students planning careers in either industry or research, and by software engineers who want to begin using deep learning in their products or platforms. A website offers supplementary material for both readers and instructors.

CLEAN CODE - A HANDBOOK OF AGILE SOFTWARE CRAFTSMANSHIP
Robert c. Martin
- Pearson Plc Global
- 14 Août 2008
- 9780132350884
Even bad code can function. But if code isn't clean, it can bring a development organization to its knees. Every year, countless hours and significant resources are lost because of poorly written code. But it doesn't have to be that way. Noted software expert Robert C. Martin presents a revolutionary paradigm with Clean Code: A Handbook of Agile Software Craftsmanship . Martin has teamed up with his colleagues from Object Mentor to distill their best agile practice of cleaning code «on the fly» into a book that will instill within you the values of a software craftsman and make you a better programmer-but only if you work at it. What kind of work will you be doing? You'll be reading code-lots of code. And you will be challenged to think about what's right about that code, and what's wrong with it. More importantly, you will be challenged to reassess your professional values and your commitment to your craft. Clean Code is divided into three parts. The first describes the principles, patterns, and practices of writing clean code. The second part consists of several case studies of increasing complexity. Each case study is an exercise in cleaning up code-of transforming a code base that has some problems into one that is sound and efficient. The third part is the payoff: a single chapter containing a list of heuristics and «smells» gathered while creating the case studies. The result is a knowledge base that describes the way we think when we write, read, and clean code. Readers will come away from this book understanding How to tell the difference between good and bad code How to write good code and how to transform bad code into good code How to create good names, good functions, good objects, and good classes How to format code for maximum readability How to implement complete error handling without obscuring code logic How to unit test and practice test-driven development This book is a must for any developer, software engineer, project manager, team lead, or systems analyst with an interest in producing better code.

COMPUTING WITH QUANTUM CATS: FROM COLOSSUS TO QUBITS
John Gribbin
- Black Swan
- 19 Juin 2015
- 9780552779319
The quantum computer is no longer the stuff of science fiction. Pioneering physicists are on the brink of unlocking a new quantum universe which provides a better representation of reality than our everyday experiences and common sense ever could. The birth of quantum computers - which, like Schrodinger's famous 'dead and alive' cat, rely on entities like electrons, photons or atoms existing in two states at the same time - is set to turn the computing world on its head.
In his fascinating study of this cutting-edge technology, John Gribbin updates his previous views on the nature of quantum reality, arguing for a universe of many parallel worlds where 'everything is real'. Looking back to Alan Turing's work on the Enigma machine and the first electronic computer, Gribbin explains how quantum theory developed to make quantum computers work in practice as well as in principle. He takes us beyond the arena of theoretical physics to explore their practical applications - from machines which learn through 'intuition' and trial and error to unhackable laptops and smartphones. And he investigates the potential for this extraordinary science to create a world where communication occurs faster than light and teleportation is possible.
